The members of this forum seem to be very specific about the type of poodles that they share a love for. They clearly favour the toy poodles.

New Thread: Greetings fellow lovers of toy poodles

Hello to you all,

I am delighted to find so many people who share my love of toy poodles.

My wife has always had a toy poodle in the family homestead, ever since she was a little girl - so she was determined that we had one ourselves when we set up home together.

At first I pushed for us to have a more manly dog around the house like pit bull, or at least a more traditional family dog - maybe a labrador.

But from the moment we saw Gloria we were both totally smitten, we have had her for five years now and she is absolutely brilliant with our four year old little boy - the perfect temperament.

She is a particularly small white toy poodle, and I am now so far over my macho issues that I am even comfortable being seen out with her when she is wearing her little pink coat.

I will post a photo or a link as soon as I can work out how to.
Love Marmalord

Thread: New member, new rabbits
Posted by: Marmalord (New Kit)
Hello I am Marmalord (Ruler of Marmaland).
My Parents and my Sister both decided to buy my four year old Son a rabbit for Easter.

Now I am sure that the dog is for life rule applies to rabbits and Easter, but don’t worry - we certainly intend to look after the two little fellas.

I have built them a hutch and the main priority since we got Chivers & Hartley home this morning is making sure our labrador doesn't eat them both!

I am a little concerned that both rabbits are showing alarming signs of lethargy. Do you think this may be just a case of them getting used to their new home?

Also, I am not sure what type of rabbits they are. (Both are different the larger bunny has smaller eyes and much longer ears).

Perhaps if I post a picture someone would be kind enough to identify the breeds for me?

"Hi and welcome to the forum.I think it's best to leave them to settle in and get used to their new surrounding for the first few days (I know it's hard with kids!) They are most likely stressed by all the changes. Do you have a hidy hole in their hutch? if not a small cardboard box on it's side will do, something they can both snuggle up in, and feel more secure. I'd fill this full of hay so it's like a nesty area. Pop a couple of little snacks ie. some little pieces of chopped veg or dried food, around the entrance to entise them out when they feel a little braver. Check on them routinely for signs of nibbling at food and whether they've done any poo's.How old are they? and do you have any background on them? Personally I'd also book them into the vets for a general health check up and make sure they are properly sexed.Good Luck"

"Welcome to the forum As you only bought the bunnies home today, you need to leave them for a few days to settle in. The main this is to make sure they are eating and drinking Make sure they have a constant supply of hay. They are probably very scared of the dog too They will eventually get used to the dog of course, but its all new to them.Im sure if you posted pictures we would be able to help with what breed the bunnies are, though if they were from a pet shop its more likely they are crossbreeds I would definately advise you take them to the vet for a general check up so they can be sexed properly (you dont want them multiplying ) and also their myxi vaccination Look foward to photos xXx"

New thread posted in the eggs Q&A forum:
Karen laying some seriously strange eggs

Hello.

We are fairly new to keeping chickens, and brand new to the forum.

Over the last couple of days one of our six birds (a white leghorn called Karen) has been laying some very strange looking eggs.

Typically we can count on Karen for a steady output of mid sized white eggs.

But the last 10 or so been completely different, varying in size colour and texture - in fact one she laid yesterday almost appears to have a slightly effervescent glaze to it.

We are really concerned, if I post a picture of some of the more irregular eggs on the forum. Do you think some forum members would be kind enough to cast their expert eyes over them for me?

Many thanks!
Marmalord

It's Saturday night, and I have just joined the Mediaeval Combat Society forum (I know I need to get out more) but these good people are dedicated to re-enacting the 14th Century.
They also have some serious weapons - so I had better not mess with them.
Instead - lets see if group Leader Graham and his friends want to come out and play..........

Hello I am the Marmalord (Ruler of Marmaland).
I am here to make a very special and open offer for you all to be part of our unique battle re-enactment.As you will no doubt know, the mediaeval battle fought between the people of Marmaland and the evil Lemon curds has not yet been accurately re-enacted.
This Spring Bank Holiday, in a park in Caterham that changes.
White Knobs Park, 2pm, bring your weapons and wear your costumes.
(Tea & biscuits will be provided).
Date- Monday 25th May 2009.
Venue- White Knobs Park Caterham Valley Surrey

"Nice one, you gave me a little chuckle there, I think our maces will be quite effective against the evil lemon curds! Marmaland forever"!_________________The Medieval Combat Society http://www.themcs.org/

"I also run one of the portal sites for reenactment globally and am generally kept informed of any events that are happening but I have not heard of your event so far this year. I know Caterham quite well but have not heard of the park that you mention. If you want your event publicised to the several hundred thousand people across the UK interested in such events please feel free to contact. Certainly either the society site or the events site generate more than 250,000 page hits per month each, and from a global audience, so it might generate some interest for you"?

William Montacute (Baron)
"It certainly sounds like the sort of off-beat oddity that may well appeal to many of the people we know who like to take part in such fun and, of course, non historical events".

Wendymj (Baron)
"Welcome, I'm afraid I have a strong aversion to Lemon Curd following an unfortunate childhood incident. Should you plan a future event involving, say, a nice strawberry conserve it might be a little more tempting. I do wish you luck though and hope you find some willing participants".

Marmalord (Serf)
"Thanks for the responses A strong aversion to lemon curd is exactly what I look for when recruiting for my marmalade army! I agree that there is a place for an egg at the breakfast table, but as long as there is blood running through my veins I will never accept it as a lemon spread ingredient".

William Montacute (Baron)
"So Marmalord, Out of sword, hand and a half sword, two handed sword, mace, axe, glave, bardiche, flail, ball on a chain, quarter staff, archery, pole axe, bill hook and morning star which do you think most effective against Lemon Curd"?

Marmalord (Serf)
"Weaponary appears to be your area David - and to be honest you are gonna have to explain the difference between a Bardiche and a pole axe for me. But I guess, I would go with the morning star + ball on a chain combo. (that is of course if the Marma-Blade was not available to me)".

If I had to bet on which of the five forums I have joined so far would be first to make it to the graveyard - Same Difference would be my odds on favourite.

This is clearly a forum with issues, last month a few stalwart members (the likes of same_difference_rock, IloveSean & Sean'sNo1girl) tried to gee'up the activity levels.
On 22nd March JordanC14 bravely put on her caps lock and fired this warning shot across the forum bow:
"IS A BIT OF A GHOST TOWN. ATM HARDLY ANY1 IS ON AND SADLY SARAH AND SEAN HAVEN'T BEEN ON FOR AGES, LETS TRY AND SPEED IT UP A BIT!!!!! (smiley face insertion)

And just five days ago SeansNo1Girl shared some alarming news.
(the following is an extract from her post on the 5th April:

"Mods (Moderators) today have been notified that the company that runs the Same Difference Forum are no longer managing it.
There is now no pre approval of memberships and no-one for the mods to go to for approval of things of importance. Therefore we may encounter some rogue members who just want to create havoc".

New Thread: Found Same Difference, now everything is differentby Marmalord on Fri Apr 10, 2009 11:15 pm

Hello I am The Marmalord (Ruler of Marmaland).
I am new to the forum, and also a new admirer of the Same Difference.

A good friend Marusan Mu Chicki Chicki is a avid fan, he has often spoken of them - but brought them fully into my life this week by sending me a link to some of their music on the YouTube.

I think I am still reeling a little from the impact they have made on me (finding it hard to get the music out of my head, or to eat).

They are a very talented couple, great singers, great dancers and clearly very much in love (Sean is one lucky guy, I certainly think that Sarah is a real fox!).

Looking forward to seeing them in the flesh!

New Thread: How rude are you lot?
by
Marmalord on Sat Apr 11, 2009 11:20 am

I joined this forum yesterday.
I was very excited, and looked forward to meeting like-minded people.
To introduce myself, I posted a nice message sharing just how much of an impact the Same Difference have had on my life since I discovered them last week.
And then today I find that my post has been deleted, how rude!
I would like to know who deleted my message and why?

I see nearly all the posts here are left by a select handful of 'members' so I have to assume that you are some sort of elitist camarilla, a snobbish coterie or a closed clique?

If this is the way you treat new members it is little wonder you are struggle to grow your numbers - I am not in the least surprised to read that Sean and his lovely wife Sarah haven't visited your forum for a while.

Response:
Jammy (239 posts - 1.3 posts per day)
"Next time get the facts before you start gobbing off. There are actually alot of members on this forum not just an "elite group", but lately there has been no SD news, but if you were on here a few months back when the album/single were about to be released it was buzzing. So don't bother gobbing after one day on the forum because you're just gonna bring the forum down. + saying things about 'his lovley wife' is just gonna spark arguments off".

Barry123 (2589 posts - 11.5 posts per day)
"Please let us know how Same Difference have changed your life".

SeansNo1Girl (224 posts - 0.9 posts per day)
"I am going to lock off this topic to avoid antagonising members further".

"I deleted the post because what you wrote was offensive and trying to provoke arguments".

It is 9.08pm, it's forum member Esko's 25th birthday I am officially the newest 'poet' in town.

Despite being the largest forum so far, I come here fully expecting to take the title of 'least talented poet' but after a quick glance at a few threads it seems I may have a little competition for that crown.

9.39pm The intro thread:
Greetings.
I am Marmalord - the ruler of Marmaland.
Delighted to be here, there are clearly some very talented poets kicking around this forum.I really look forward to reading more members work, and posting the odd piece of my own.
(:badger: insertion)

A mere 9 minutes later and VIP forum member Bastet is the first to welcome me with his or her 2147th post in 8 months of residency.

"salutations to you m'lord marmalord - i hope you enjoy the forum and look forward to reading your work"

Well I better not keep Bastet waiting - looks like it is time to post a poem.

There are many categories in which to submit your 'work', but 'Mature triggering content' comes with a bit of a health warning so it seems the right home for..............

New thread 10.50pm - Marmalade violation:
Written in the trenches during the war with the evil lemon curds (dark times), feedback of all flavours welcomed!

Marmalade violation

His hand a claw with damaged knuckles
He delved into his bag of apples
The fruit he offered was smooth in texture
You perceived the gift an honest gesture
But when skin is broken, find flesh is rotten
And so the trust is soon forgotten
He creeps up beside you with eyes wild
To spread his marmalade on your child

Well I did say I was going to post the 'odd' piece. I am very excited to see if my prose gets any critique.

Keen to kick things off by joining a forum a day for the first week, cross stitching seemed like a good choice when I looked for my second world to step into.

Clearly this forum is niche, but it also appears to be a world where you get response.

My first move - the basic intro:
New thread 8.09pm:

Hello I am Marmalord, (The Ruler of Marmaland).
I am delighted to have stumbled across this on line dwelling place for fellow ‘stitchers’.

6 minutes later, and two minutes ago......
Serinde (joined forum Jan 31 2006) made (i assume, her) 5360th posts to date...........

"Oh, hey! I think we have a right one here! Welcome from the West of Scotland, M'lord... Make yourself at home!"

Serinde has made an average of 7.8 posts each and every day for over two years.

It would seem that http://www.crossstitchforum.com/ is far from 'dead'. The equally prolific poster - Mags is the next to welcome me, she asks...."Hello and welcome Where is this Marmaland ?"

I tell Mags that it is a little known borough of London, and then I post the following:

New thread: 8.31pm: Advice needed:
Having looked at the friendly tone of the residents posts I feel confident that here I will find the advice that I need..

In the past my hobby has been one of my guilty secrets, but if I am honest I have always had a deep (if sometimes hidden) love of needlecraft.

It would be fair to say that like most young heterosexual men, my ‘football friends’ ‘motor-racing mates’ and ‘public house pals’ have all struggled to display any genuine interest in my crafty endeavours.

Previously knitting has been at the heart of my craft work - but I have often flirted with the idea of cross stitch.

Finally I laid the ‘big needles’ down, and took the plunge. It is two weeks now since I was seduced by a L. S. Lowry template and starter set and I really need some help.

Unlike knitting, that I always found to be really therapeutic - this whole cross stitching business seems to make me deeply angry.

It really nags away at me like the radio that is not quite tuned in properly, or the buzz of an invisible fly. It would seem that put simply - cross stitching actually makes me ‘cross’.

Has anyone else encountered this?
Could it be part of the learning process?
Or do you think that cross stitch and I are just not happy bedfellows?
Thanks
Marmalord

-----------------------------------------------------------------
10.39pm, and I had 8 welcomes and 3 posts with advice - a few days later and there were 20 welcomes and 16 posts with advice.

Response highlights:
"I'm from the US so all that you all just said went right over my head"

"Welcome my lord (*Tugs forelock)"

"I would hazard a guess that you are an accomplished knitter, and that cross stitch is totally new?"

"Most of us have bitten off more than we can chew at some point -- usually at the beginning! I wouldn't think that would really account for your crossness".

"Perhaps, as a needle art, cross stitch isn't your thing (paint by numbers with thread, as someone once said). But don't despair! It forms a component of other disciplines: hardanger, drawn thread, assisi work... (Perhaps you ought to be a weaver??)"

"We do have other male members, who will probably understand your plight regarding your friends. In particular, our very own Mr X Stitch is now becoming famous in his own right".
"I don't remember my husband getting angry at stitching, but he struggled quite a bit with his first project and never finished it".

"You're not the only guy who does needlework. We have several on here. Both my father and father-in-law crocheted at one point in time. It doesn't matter what the other boys think".
"There's nothing wrong with a man cross stitching, my boyfriend does".

"Where is Mr X Stitch?"

"Yes Marmalord it can make you very cross sometimes I think the other ladies have forgotten about that nasty little frog that sits on hoops waiting for a mistake to appear that makes us all very cross"!!!!

I wandered into the Hedge Fund Lounge for the first time at 9.29pm, and was greeted by the following question in a poll:

How long should we give the global economic stimulus plans to take effect?

Options: 2010,2011, by the end of this year or 'its going to take a long time before output goes back to normal'.
Obviously I went with the last option, and was delighted to find that I had joined the majority of 36%. That's it then, I am officially now a Hedge Fund Manager.
But you wont find 'us' Hedge Fund Managers hanging out in chat rooms, it would appear we have discussion forums and they are broken into four zones: Legal & Compliance, Hedge Fund Investors, Hedge Fund Managers & Hedge Fund Newbies.

Very few threads have any responses at all, so I am not optimistic but I decided to post the following:

New Thread: Start up fund seeks partners with a taste for marmalade.
Hello,

I am the Marmalord ruler of Marmaland, with the financial backing of my friend and associate Marusan Mu Chicki Chicki I am in the very early stages of launching our fund.

Marusan has a great deal of FMCG experience, and our plan is to capitalise on his knowledge and use marmalade as our commodity.

We will be hedging with investments in inferior breakfast spreads, and I have total confidence that even in these 'interesting financial times' we will 'clean up' short selling vile Lemon Curd, and investing long in traditional thick cut Seville marmalade.

We need two partners, one to invest $10 million - the second to meet us in a pub and very quickly explain the whole 'ins and outs' of these hedge funds (there's a pint or two in it for you).

Any advice that anyone can offer on this thread will be much appreciated, alternatively email me at marmalord@gmail.com

It is an hour since I joined the Hedge Fund Lounge, unsurprisingly I have had no immediate response.
